6. “Buddy-Prof E” (Student Learning Buddy: AI “Professor E” in Secondary Schools)
The “Buddy-Pro E” Project continues to make steady progress in supporting student learning and development through the integration of AI. In December last year, the initiative received 65 applications, of which 26 were accepted. Schools not selected have been informed of the option to participate on a paid basis, ensuring wider access to the program.
The project is structured to address key stages of secondary education. In Year 0 (2025/26), the focus is on easing the transition into secondary schools, with attention given to orientation activities and cultural trips that help students adapt to new environments.
In Year 1 (2026/27), the emphasis will shift to academic and personal development, including guidance on S3 subject selection and support for life planning and personal growth for students in S4 to S6. In addition, the Professor-E system has the potential to assist in identifying students who may require additional emotional support. HKAHSS will work closely with Professor Eriwn Huang and his colleagues from the HKUST and we will continue to provide updates on new research developments related to this AI tool.
7. Survey on “Practising Certificate”
In February 2026, the Education Bureau has submitted the discussion paper regarding “Enhancing the Teacher Registration Mechanism through Amendments to the Education Ordinance (Cap. 279) and Safeguarding the Education Profession” to the Legislative Council Panel on Education to introduce the “Practising certificate” and regular renewal requirements. On 5 February 2026, the HKAHSS sent a letter to all Legislative Council members to express opinions.
In March 2026, the HKAHSS also invited secondary school principals and teachers to complete a survey on the Education Bureau’s proposal to introduce a practising certificate and renewal system for teachers.
We are pleased to report a strong level of participation with 743 submissions. We extend our sincere thanks to all members and colleagues who contributed. Your thoughtful feedback has provided valuable insights that will help HKAHSS represent the perspectives of secondary school leaders and practitioners more effectively. The collective effort reflects the commitment of our community to shaping important discussions in education. Findings and recommendations informed by your contributions will be shared in due course.
