Dear Members,
Welcome to the latest edition of the HKAHSS newsletter. As we head into summer vacation—a time for rest, growth, and new beginnings—we also recognize that we live in an age of rapid change. With that in mind, we remain committed to keeping our community informed and connected. We are pleased to share the most important updates, achievements, and developments from our association
1. Annual Conference (1/6/2026)
The HKAHSS Annual Conference 2026, “Policy Roundtable: Principals’ Engagement Session with the LegCo Panel on Education,” was held on Monday, 1 June 2026, at the Legislative Council Complex, with around 100 members in attendance.
The session provided a platform for school leaders to exchange views with Prof. Hon. Lau Chi-pang, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Panel on Education, together with more than 10 Legislative Council Members on key education topics, including practising certificate, education budget cuts, declining student population, and university admissions and student pathways.
In addition, a guided tour of the Complex was arranged to enrich participants’ experience and deepen their understanding of policy-making.
Overall, the 2026 Annual Conference fostered meaningful dialogue, strengthened sector-wide engagement, and highlighted the importance of collaboration between schools and policymakers.
2. Survey on “Practising Certificate”
Our association wrote to all Legislative Council members on 5 February 2026 to express our views on the “Practising Certificate,” then conducted a questionnaire survey of member schools from 13 to 31 March 2026 to collect feedback from principals and teachers on the relevant policy.
A total of 743 responses were received. The survey participants were mainly Graduate Master/Mistress (63.3%), followed by Senior Graduate Master/Mistress (18.2%), Principal Graduate Master/Mistress (5.6%) and Principal (9.4%).

3. SRL Festival 2026/27
The “Joint School Teacher Professional Development Day 2027” will be held as follows:
Date: 29 January 2027 (Friday)
Time: 0900-1230
Venue: SKH Holy Trinity Church Secondary School
Theme: “Digital Empowerment: Transforming Learning and Teaching” 數字賦能‧智啟學教
Objective: In alignment with the national “15th Five-Year Plan” for Digital Education Strategy and the Education Bureau’s “Smart Learning and Teaching” initiative, this event anchors itself on a core educational principle: “Utilizing AI to Enhance Learning and Teaching Effectiveness.” The program aims to explore innovative strategies for fostering students’ self-directed learning literacy in the AI era, ultimately achieving the goal of personalized instruction.
Keynote & Share Sessions: The sessions will focus on practical, actionable applications in the classroom, including:
- Data-Driven Instruction: Utilizing data to diagnose learning gaps and deliver personalized remedial pathways.
- AI-Driven Engagement: Stimulating student potential through interactive AI tools to build digital adaptability and resilience.
Registration:
- Applications for the “Whole-School Approach” closed in June 2026.
- Details regarding individual school registration will be dispatched to all schools in October 2026.
4. Staff Professional Development Services 2026/27
We are delighted to introduce the 2026/27 Staff Professional Development Service, continuing the success of our previous initiatives. The HKAHSS remains dedicated to empowering schools with high-quality professional development through engaging seminars and workshops.
In 2026/27, the staff professional development programmes, seminars, or workshops covers 31 topics in 6 different areas:
- New Trends and Prospects in Education
- Learning & Teaching & Curriculum
- Students’ Growth & Nurture
- Teacher Professional Growth & Development
- School Self-Evaluation & External Review
- School Management Theory & Practice

5. “Buddy-Prof E” (Student Learning Buddy: AI “Professor E” in Secondary Schools)
In December 2025, the “Buddy-Pro E” Project received 65 applications. After a selection process, 26 applications were accepted.
Regarding project planning, “Buddy-Pro E” has begun with Year 0 and the responses from schools have been encouraging. During this phase, the programme’s cultural trip activities are complemented by guided chat conversations designed to elicit student reflections. As students move through different learning points, they will be encouraged—through carefully designed prompts and a supportive chat format—to share what they noticed, what they learned, and how the experience contributes to their deeper learning through reflection.
In 2026/27, the project will become Year 1, and the focus will shift to “Life Planning,” including S3 subject selection, and S4-6 university course selection and career planning.
With MBTI assessment, the chat function will be used to help students think more deeply about their interests, strengths, and learning preferences, supporting more meaningful self-understanding. The same reflective mechanism will also extend to S3–S6 for life planning and personal development, prompting students to consider both short- and long-term goals, values, and practical next steps.
We have noted that Professor-E’s system may help identify students who may need emotional support by monitoring patterns in their chat responses, such as repeated expressions of stress, uncertainty, or low confidence, so that follow-up support can be arranged where necessary.
Professor E utilizes a technological model to automatically generate user-friendly school reports and individual growth profiles upon completion of study tours or activities. The profile would incorporate two objective assessment frameworks: MBTI Personality Trait Analysis, which has proven high reliability during student development stages, and the ROCKS Model, which evaluates students’ Reflection, Ownership, Critical Thinking, Seek for Purpose, and Self-Identity.
6. Retreat for HKAHSS Executive Committee & Task Group Members (16/6)
Retreat for HKAHSS Executive Committee & Task Group Members took place on 16 June 2026 at Cyberport. Centred on the theme “Leadership in the Generation of AI,” the event gathered our Executive Committee & Task Group Members to examine the strategic responsibilities of school leaders in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The retreat opened with a welcome address by our chairman, followed by an introduction to Cyberport’s digital ecosystem by Mr. Ricky Choi Wai-kit, Director of Smart City & Digital Transformation, Cyberport Hong Kong. During the morning, Ms. Christie Pang from Lirvana Lab led a seminar exploring the deep impacts of AI on Hong Kong’s secondary education. We then took part in a guided tour of Cyberport’s Digital Tech Centre and the Low-Altitude Economy Exhibition Hub.
The afternoon session shifted focus toward leadership development, featuring a presentation by Preface CEO Tommie Lo and his team regarding the specific skills principals need to guide schools in an AI-driven era.
The event concluded with a collaborative forum where educators shared their reflections on the challenges of modern school management and discussed how the HKAHSS can best support local principals moving forward.

8. Farewell to Outgoing Principals
The Executive Committee would like to express our sincere gratitude to all those who have devoted many years of dedicated service to our schools and will be retiring or taking early retirement in September. In particular, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lau Yiu-hung, our Vice Chairperson, and Ms. Ella Chan Shuk-man, our Executive Committee Member, for their long-standing commitment and valuable contributions.
